It is with great pride that I welcome you to the Staunton River Middle School site, community, and school.  It is our goal as a learning community to bring Staunton River to the height of academic excellence.  Our focus is on the individual student’s learning and success.

With that goal in mind, we eagerly continue our journey into personalized learning.  This year we move into Year 2 of our Active Learning Personalized pilots.  Several 8th graders will focus on learning by varying the pace of instruction and by working with a team approach in learning.  All of our math students will  be allowed choice in their math classes.  Choice will involve how students learn the material and types of activities to show mastery of material.

The other exciting opportunity coming this school year is one to one device deployment for all 7th and 8th grade students.  Each of the students in these grades will be issued their own Google Chromebook for school and home use.  This is challenging and exciting for all staff members as we learn to teach students in a technology filled world.  Our goals are to teach them responsibility, internet safety, and digital citizenship.

As a proud Staunton River High School graduate and community member, it is my goal to continue in the legacy of community spirit, excellence, and Eagle Pride!

It is a great privilege to welcome you to Staunton River Middle School for the 2017-2018 school year! 2016-2017 was a wonderful year here at SRMS - we increased SOL performance to the highest level in years, we made another drastic decrease in the number of disciplinary referrals, we saw over 85% of students remain eligible to participate in no-referral incentives each nine-weeks, and we continued building a community focused on seeing every single student succeed.

Like last year, my greatest priority for this year is to build strong, positive relationships with every parent and student. It is critical that we share the vision of equipping students with the academic skills, social skills, and critical thinking skills to succeed in the 21st Century, and I firmly believe we must work together as one committed community to do so.

This year we also begin with a renewed focus on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Through this program we provide ongoing incentives to students who regularly meet or exceed SRMS' expectations such as daily passes, monthly rewards, quarterly incentive days, and an annual celebration at the end of the year. Futhermore, the PBIS Team works hard to teach and model appropriate behaviors, communication, and social skills so that all students are equipped with the knowledge to succeed, both at SRMS and beyond.

I am confident that this will be another great year at SRMS! I welcome your thoughts and comments as we continue working together, and I wish all of our students a challenging, inspiring year of learning!
